More than 400 apartments could be coming to Chicago’s Near North Side if developer Fifield Cos. wins over neighborhood residents and the city for its 43-story apartment tower planned at Maple Street and LaSalle Drive.
The Chicago-based developer is set to make its first public presentation of the 406-unit design Wednesday, less than a month after residents of one nearby condo building vowed to stop the project. The glass tower would become the tallest in the immediate area.

Lincoln Park mansion sells for $4.5 million
May 20, 2020
A 19th century mansion in Lincoln Park has sold for $4.5 million, about 40 percent of what the seller had invested to buy and rehab it.
The six-bedroom 10,150-square foot Deming Place mansion sold May 20 for $4.5 million. The turreted, red stone house first came on the market in June 2016, priced at a little under $8.9 million.
In the listing for the house, Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty agent Tim Salm wrote that “$11 million was invested” in the home. Salm confirmed that figure for Crain’s this afternoon.
“They spared no expense doing the nicest renovation possible,” Salm said, “and when you go ultra-custom, you never get all of that money back.” In other words, he said, the big comedown in price “isn’t a sign of the times.”
